Mark Weyman was born in Birmingham in 1964 and studied Architecture, Fine Art and Contemporary Theatre in Newcastle, Cardiff and Lancaster. He now lives and works in London. “My performances are about spaces and places. I catalogue a space, indiscriminately observing everything, including details that are generally overlooked, but which provide a crucial key to the mystery of a place. Many of my performances have a game-like structure; when the audience works out the rules of the game they may participate in the performances, thus making it a collaborative event, and less centred on the performer. My performances are often conceived for specific spaces. I try to project a new vision into an existing space, superimposing an alternative, thus creating an equivalence that compels the audiences’ attention to fluctuate between the real and the imaginary.” |
