BLACK MARKET INTERNATIONAL (BMI) was founded in 1985 and is without doubt, the most significant performance collective working in their field. This publication features interviews with BMI members where they recount the group’s evolution and their different approaches to collaboration throughout the years. They examine the concept of BMI: the theoretical and ideological approach to this type of performance and way of working, as well as the meaning of BMI for the individual. Also included is previously unpublished documentation of BMI’s performance at the 2010 BONE Festival in Bern. This was the last BMI performance in which Norbert Klassen appeared before his death in 2011.

BLACK MARKET INTERNATIONAL (BMI) existiert seit 1985 und ist in ihrem Genre einer der weltweit bedeutendsten Performance Gruppe. In der vorliegenden Dokumentation sind neben Performances auch Interviews mit BMI-Mitglieder zu sehen, welche über die Entstehung von BMI wie auch über die Veränderungen der Zusammenarbeit über die Jahre erzählt. Es wird sowohl über das Prinzip von BMI und über den theoretischen und ideologischen inhaltlichen Zugang zu dieser Art von Performancearbeit gesprochen sowie über die tatsächliche Arbeitsweise und die Bedeutung von BMI aus Sicht der Interviewten. Im Weiteren ist eine Performance von BMI am BONE Festival in Bern, 2010, zu sehen. Dies war die letzte BMI-Performance mit Norbert Klassen vor seinem Tod im Jahr 2011.

This publication contains two DVDs with over 150mins. of material. Disk 1 features a 60min. documentary with interviews with BMI members and footage from their performance at the New Territories festival in Glasgow, 2007. There is also an extended 20min. interview with Norbert Klassen. Disk 2 contains an 70min. video documentation of BMI’s performance at the 2010 BONE Festival in Bern. The DVDs have both English and German subtitles and menus.

Diese Publikation enthält zwei DVD’s in der Länge von 150 Minuten. DVD 1 zeigt eine Dokumentation, welche Interviews mit BMI-Mitglieder und Ausschnitte aus Performances von BMI während dem New Territories Festival in Glasgow, 2007, umfasst (60 Min). Im Weiteren enthält sie ein Interview mit Norbert Klassen (20 Min). Auf der DVD 2 ist Norbert Klassen’s letzte Performance mit BMI am BONE Festival in Bern, 2010, zu sehen (70 Min). Beide DVDs, inkl. Menu sind Deutsch und Englisch untertitelt.
