Personal Artistic Work

One Minute Performance Reconstructions, Nippon International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF), Tokyo & Nagoya, Japan

March 2003

This work, performed twice during the NIPAF festival, was a ten minute solo performance in which I made eight, one minute recreations of a selection of the other perfromances I had seen at the festival. The duration of the one minute recreations was timed by playing short tracks from Glenn Gould's recording of the Goldberg Variations. The one minute recreations were performed in quick succession and presented 'conceptual recreations' of work by other performers in the festival. I often employed objects or actions from the original performance in my recreation but employed them in a different way.A series of one minute performances which reinterpreted and recreated work by some of the other performance artists in the festival.

NIPAF has annually presented performance art work by Japanese, East Asian and international artists for over 10 years. It has had a signigicant influence on the development of performance art as a viable art form both in Japan and across the Asian region.
